CATSUIT! The Slavendelian Mission(9)

Agent River was taken into the reception hall of Kreigorn Castle, a huge magnificent area richly appointed with paintings, sculptures and tapestries themed around glorious aspects of Slavendelian culture. She was led to a mahogany desk near the bottom of a massive flight of stairs, where a small mousy woman squinted at her over her glasses. Checking her records, the woman decided that River should have to be kept in solitary confinement until the Den-Mother Superior returned from her conference.

An off-hand comment from one of the guards about 'damn foreigners' suggested to River that the Den-Mother Superior might be involved in the meeting with the representatives from Nosferatu, the crime syndicate. If intelligence reports were accurate, the initial meetings would take a couple of days, maybe three. After that the major players would get down to business, whilst the others would return to their regular duties. Unless she had something major to contribute to the talks, the Den-Mother Superior would fit into the latter category. So, River had a limited amount of time in which to act.

She was led into the older areas of the castle. Here bare stone floors and walls replaced the marble of reception. Descending several flights of stairs took her to the prisons. She was thrust into a cell, itself inside a secure room with a thick wooden door. The guards sneeringly told her not to try to escape, it was impossible. Besides, she would need to save her strength if she was to endure the fate that awaited her once the Den-Mother Superior returned. Taking the armbinder (which, from what one said, had to be returned to the Chapter House where she had been held earlier), they locked her in the cell and left. A heavy 'CLUNK!' indicated the outer door had been sealed by a wooden bar.

River spent a few moments looking round the cell, considering her options. A plan was forming. Satisfied that there was no more to be done at the moment she got on the small bed. She would need her rest, tonight was going to be busy...
